King County Classifieds - Safety Message

Online Safety

At Kitsap Web Development your safety is very important to us.

Using the internet to interact with people can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. It can also be dangerous.
In this article we will try to shed some light on the dangers, from online scams to safety while meeting strangers. We will provide tips and hopefully make your next online interaction enjoyable and safe.

King County Classifieds offers a classifieds solution for offering products and services. There are some safety guidelines that should always be followed when offering products and services in an online atmosphere.

King County Classifieds is not associated with ebay, craigs list or any classifieds or escrow service. You can find a list of our websites at. www.kitsapwebdevelopment.com

Remember you are interacting with strangers and common sense needs to be used.

Don't be a victim of fraud or a scam.

  •     Never disclose any personal and financial information.(i.e. passwords, bank information, social security number, etc)
  •     Avoid wiring fund for any transactions
  •     Avoid ads that are severely under priced. These type of ads bait you with "To Good to be True" Deals. Please report any ad you feel may violate our terms by clicking the "Flag as Inappropriate" button.
  •     Deal with people who are local and that you can meet one on one to complete a transaction.
  •     Beware of fake money orders or bank checks as they can be honored by the bank initially and later come back as fraudulent.
  •     Never use Western Union or wire transfer to purchase products and/or services - only a scammer will ask for this, and any funds sent will be lost.
  •     Remember protect yourself from identity theft. Don't share your private info. Identity theft is among the fastest growing crimes in the United States. Don't give out bank account numbers, passwords, mother's maiden name, date of birth, place of birth, credit  card numbers, social security numbers, or any other personal information.
  •     If at all possible avoid shipping and escrow services. Scammers commonly employ fake, online escrow services. If using an escrow service make sure you research escrow services to ensure you are using a reliable and safe service.
  •    Sad and desperate stories about divorcees, people in need or departing servicemen who need to sell items quickly at a low price are most likely fraudulent.
  •     If a Seller suggests Shipping a vehicle to you. REFUSE!
Do not buy vehicles without first looking at them, regardless of a low price. The vehicle most likely does not exist, if you send money it probably will be lost. Offers to ship a vehicle are 100% fraudulent.

Be aware KingCountyClassifieds.net does not involve itself in any transaction between
seller and buyer, nor do we provide any protection for such transactions.

Some Scams

There are many types of scams and not all can be noted here. We will try to show some examples of the more popular scams being used and update the page with new ones when they appear.

If someone is offering something that seems to good to be true. It probably is.

Often residences and apartments are advertised and in all actuality the building is not available and the Ad is a Scam. Beware of this situation. This scam can also be used in vehicle sales.

Never submit to credit or background checks for employment or housing until you have had a meeting with the interviewer or landlord.

A very popular scam used in classifieds or want ad services is the buyer will send extra money in the form of a cashiers check, western union or money order for the product or service. They then ask for the extra funds back and bait you by offering you a portion of the extra funds. The check/money order itself is often a forged document and you lose in more ways then one. Cash and services like Paypal are recommended.

  • If you receive a reply or email from someone in Africa/Nigeria/Abidjan or other countries who claims to have millions of dollars from a dead husband/father/brother/relative and wants you to help get the money out of their country - This is a scam where it sounds to good to be true or real. This is known as the Nigerian 419 scam.

  • The Sad Story Scam is often used with women, divorcees, military personnel, handicap and elderly as people in need.

Hello Dear,

I am drenched with tears while writing this short message to you. It was heartbreaking news to me few days ago when my doctor notified me about the complications in my health condition. He reliably told me that I will be dying soon as a result of a secondary pancreatic cancer which currently, destroyed the pancreatic organs in my body system. According to him, he said that this complication will lead to my imminent death since no medication can alleviate the high system of deformation.

In the view of the above after going through your profile via the internet, I decided to contact you since I have I meant to believe that you are trustworthy, upright and also a philanthropist, I have decided to entrust the sum of us$8.2 million USD as to manage and oversea an orphanage home in my memory, I want to know if you can Manage and run an orphanage/handicapped skill acquisition center for orphans, Give food to the hungry Orphans and a general skill acquisition center for the less privileged. The said fund I Legitimately acquired as an inheritance from my adopted father, who was assassinated in Malaysia as a result of a farm land conflict which erupted between him and his business associate (Land donors).

I will make available to you all information and officially authorize document which will endorse your claim as the beneficiary to the fund in question in the finance house where the fund was lodged by my adopted father. I have mapped out the modalities on how the fund will be apportioned. 25% of the principal amount will be for you, while 60% will be used to run an orphanage home and 15% for services and cost.

I decided to dispense this fund for charity and orphanage use because I grew up as an orphan, before i was adopted by my father from and do not have any heirs hitherto. Upon your acceptance to take care of the orphans and less privileged members of your community, giving home to the homeless and skill to those who need foundation, ETC.

Best Regards
Elizabeth siko
